Terms of Service

Draft v0.1 · not yet in force

Working draft — not yet legally reviewed.

This is a placeholder pending review by a lawyer and is not yet in force. Please don't rely on it.

These terms govern your use of the Academy of Audio platform — courses, producer tools, and the members' community forum. By creating an account you agree to them. This draft focuses on the community and membership clauses; a full set of terms will accompany the final version.

1. Eligibility & age

You must be at least 18 to create an account. By registering you confirm you are 18 or over. We may request confirmation of age and may suspend or close accounts of anyone we reasonably believe is under 18.

2. Your content & licence

You keep ownership of what you post. You grant the Academy a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, and display your posts within the platform for the purpose of operating the community. You are responsible for your content and confirm you have the rights to post it.

3. Acceptable use

Participation in the community (posting, replying, reacting, reporting) is conditional on following the Community Guidelines at all times. Access to read community content is part of your subscription; the right to participate is a conduct-based privilege.

4. Moderation & sanctions

Where you breach the Community Guidelines, we may, proportionate to the breach and your history:

  • Warn you (a note on record).
  • Mute your account (read-only) for a stated period — your access to courses, tools, and reading the community is unaffected.
  • Remove your community access while your other subscription benefits (courses, tools) continue.
  • Close your account — reserved for serious breaches.

Serious breaches — including sexual content involving minors, threats or incitement to violence, image-based abuse, doxxing, and illegal content — may result in immediate removal or account closure without prior warning, and may be reported to law enforcement and the eSafety Commissioner.

5. Billing & refunds

  • Mute and community-access removal: your subscription continues and no refund is due, because you keep the paid product (courses and tools). If you'd rather not continue without the community, contact us to cancel and receive a pro-rata refund of the unused period.
  • Account closure for breach: we refund the unused portion of your current billing period on a pro-rata basis, regardless of the reason for closure.

6. Ban evasion

If your account is closed for breach, you may not create a new account. We may retain limited information (such as your email) solely to enforce this, consistent with our Privacy Policy.

7. Content removal & preservation

We may remove or hide any content that breaches these terms. We may retain copies of removed content and related reports where necessary to comply with the law, respond to regulators (including the eSafety Commissioner), or cooperate with law enforcement.

8. Reporting, complaints & appeals

You can report content using the Report function on any post, or via our contact page. We aim to acknowledge reports and act on serious matters promptly. If you are sanctioned, you may appeal — a different reviewer will consider it where possible. You may also complain to the eSafety Commissioner.

9. Cancellation

You can cancel your subscription at any time from your account settings; access continues to the end of the paid period.

10. Changes & governing law

We may update these terms and the Community Guidelines; we'll notify you of material changes and record the version you accepted. These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia. [Dispute resolution / jurisdiction — to be confirmed with legal counsel.]
